Placement & Flow

Place Rhodactis Bounce Morphs on stable rockwork or a suitable isolated area of the reef where the mushroom has room to expand. These corals can become considerably larger when fully inflated, so allow sufficient space around the specimen.

Gentle, indirect flow is ideal. The mushroom should be able to inflate and move naturally in the current without being continuously pushed over or forced against nearby rockwork. Excessive direct flow can cause the mushroom to remain contracted or potentially become detached.

Rhodactis can spread through reproduction and may eventually occupy surrounding rockwork. If you want to maintain control over its growth, placing it on an isolated rock or dedicated mushroom island is recommended. Keep reasonable distance from neighboring corals because larger Rhodactis specimens can sting or shade nearby corals.

Lighting

Rhodactis Bounce Morphs generally perform well under 50–120 PAR. Lower to moderate lighting is usually sufficient, and extremely intense lighting is not necessary for maintaining healthy growth.

When introducing a new WYSIWYG specimen, begin at the lower end of the recommended range if its previous lighting conditions are unknown and acclimate gradually to stronger illumination. A sudden increase in intensity can cause stress or bleaching.

Blue-heavy reef lighting can significantly enhance fluorescent colors and make the vesicles and disc coloration appear more vivid. A balanced spectrum will provide a more natural representation of the coral's overall appearance.

Feeding

Rhodactis are primarily photosynthetic, receiving much of their energy from symbiotic algae. They can also capture and digest small food particles, making supplemental feeding beneficial for growth and overall condition.

When the mushroom is fully expanded, occasional feeding with mysis shrimp, finely chopped marine seafood, small zooplankton-based foods, or quality mushroom/LPS coral foods can provide additional nutrition. Use appropriately sized portions and avoid placing large amounts of food directly on the mushroom.
