Indo Candy Cane Kryptonite XL (Caulastrea furcata)

Placement & Flow

Place the Indo Candy Cane Kryptonite XL on stable lower-to-middle rockwork where its large fleshy polyps have sufficient room to expand. Avoid positioning the colony where the tissue can repeatedly rub against sharp rockwork, particularly when the polyps are fully inflated.

Provide low to moderate, indirect water movement. Enough circulation should reach the colony to prevent debris from accumulating between the heads, but strong direct flow can cause the polyps to remain contracted.

Candy Cane Corals can extend short feeding and sweeper tentacles, particularly after dark. Although generally less aggressive than many other LPS species, provide several inches of clearance from neighboring corals to prevent unwanted contact and allow room for future growth.

Lighting

The Indo Candy Cane Kryptonite XL generally performs well under approximately 50–150 PAR, making it suitable for lower and middle areas of most reef aquariums. Very intense lighting is unnecessary for maintaining healthy growth and coloration.

When introducing the coral to brighter lighting, gradual acclimation is recommended. Blue-spectrum illumination can strongly emphasize the fluorescent Kryptonite green coloration, while a balanced reef spectrum provides a more natural representation of the coral's overall appearance.

Feeding

The Indo Candy Cane Kryptonite XL is primarily photosynthetic, receiving much of its energy through symbiotic dinoflagellates within its tissue. Supplemental feeding is not required for survival under appropriate lighting and stable reef conditions, but occasional target feeding can support healthy tissue and colony development.

When feeding tentacles are extended, offer small portions of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped marine foods, or appropriately sized LPS pellets. Each head can capture food individually, making established colonies particularly responsive during feeding.
