Classic Frogspawn Coral (Fimbriaphyllia divisa)

The Classic Frogspawn is a timeless LPS coral known for its long, flowing tentacles and distinctive multi-tipped polyps. Its vibrant coloration and constant movement make it a staple in reef aquariums and an excellent choice for adding both texture and motion to a mixed reef display.

As the coral becomes established, its fleshy polyps expand throughout the day, creating the full, flowing appearance that has made Frogspawn a favorite among reef keepers for years.

Placement & Flow

Place your Classic Frogspawn where it receives gentle to moderate, indirect flow. The polyps should sway naturally without being whipped around or pushed hard against the skeleton. Proper flow encourages good extension while helping keep debris from settling on the coral.

Allow several inches of space between the Frogspawn and neighboring corals, as it can extend sweeper tentacles capable of stinging nearby corals.

Lighting

Classic Frogspawn generally thrives under low to moderate reef lighting. When introducing a new specimen, start it in a lower-light area and gradually acclimate it to stronger lighting when necessary.

Feeding

Frogspawn receives much of its nutritional needs through photosynthesis, so direct feeding is not required. However, occasional feedings of small LPS pellets, mysis, or other appropriately sized meaty foods can help support healthy growth.

Hardy, colorful, and full of movement, the Classic Frogspawn is a reef aquarium favorite that looks incredible as a single specimen or grown into a large, flowing colony.
