Blue Hippo Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus)
The Blue Hippo Tang brings vivid royal blue, a bold black pattern, and a bright yellow tail to a large saltwater aquarium. An active swimmer, it adds constant movement and color to open areas of a reef display. Its familiar appearance makes it a favorite, but it needs substantially more room as it grows than its medium purchase size may suggest.

Habitat & Compatibility
Give this tang long, unobstructed swimming space along with secure places to retreat into the rockwork. Introduce it thoughtfully if other tangs are present, and avoid crowding it into a tank sized only for the fish you receive today. Like other surgeonfish, it has a sharp spine near the tail and should be handled carefully.
Feeding
Offer a varied diet rather than relying on algae alone. Small marine plankton and other animal foods are part of its natural diet; quality frozen or prepared marine foods alongside algae-based offerings provide variety in the aquarium.
