MATRIKX CTO PLUS CARBON BLOCK - 1 MICRON

MATRIKX CTO Plus is a high-capacity carbon block made from 100% coconut-shell activated carbon. Its 1-micron nominal filtration helps reduce fine sediment while the carbon media targets chlorine, chloramine, PFAS, volatile organic compounds, tastes, odours and other chemical contaminants.

Use adequate sediment prefiltration to protect the carbon block from premature clogging. Replace the cartridge according to the filtration system’s maintenance schedule, when its rated capacity is reached or when water flow and contaminant reduction decline.

1. Shut off the feed-water supply and release pressure from the filtration system.
2. Open the compatible 10-inch filter housing.
3. Remove and discard the old cartridge.
4. Clean the housing and inspect its O-ring, replacing or lubricating it with food-grade silicone grease if required.
5. Insert the MATRIKX CTO Plus cartridge into the housing and ensure it is properly seated.
6. Reassemble the housing without overtightening it.
7. Restore the water supply slowly and inspect the housing for leaks.
8. Flush the new carbon block according to the instructions on its label and the filtration system manufacturer’s recommendations before using the filtered water.
9. Replace the cartridge when capacity is reached, water flow becomes restricted or chlorine breakthrough is detected.

1 x MATRIKX CTO Plus 1-Micron Carbon Block Cartridge

Install the cartridge inside a compatible standard 10-inch filter housing. In an aquarium RO/DI system, position it after the sediment filter and before the RO membrane.

Ensure the cartridge is centred and properly seated before tightening the housing. Restore pressure slowly, check carefully for leaks and flush the cartridge before collecting product water.

Installation order may vary by system. Follow the RO/DI system manufacturer’s filter arrangement and operating instructions.

Store unused cartridges sealed in their original packaging in a cool, clean and dry location.

Use only with microbiologically safe and adequately disinfected water. Do not autoclave or steam-sterilize the cartridge. Do not exceed the pressure, temperature or flow limits of the filter housing or water-purification system.

This cartridge does not make microbiologically unsafe water safe to drink.

Reduced water flow:
The carbon block may be clogged by sediment. Check the sediment pre-filter and replace clogged cartridges as required.

Carbon particles appear during initial use:
New carbon filters may release harmless carbon fines. Flush the cartridge thoroughly according to the label and system instructions before collecting filtered water.

Chlorine is detected after the carbon stage:
The cartridge may be exhausted, water flow may be too high or contact time may be insufficient. Reduce the flow if appropriate and replace the cartridge.

Cartridge becomes exhausted prematurely:
High sediment levels, elevated disinfectant concentrations or excessive flow can reduce service life. Improve sediment prefiltration and verify operating conditions.

Housing leaks after installation:
Shut off the water immediately. Check that the cartridge and O-ring are seated correctly and inspect the O-ring and housing for damage.

RO membrane performance declines:
Test the water leaving the carbon stage for chlorine or chloramine. Replace exhausted carbon filters promptly to protect the RO membrane.

Is this cartridge suitable for aquarium RO/DI systems?
Yes. It can be used as carbon prefiltration in compatible aquarium RO and RO/DI systems.

What size housing does it fit?
It fits most industry-standard 10-inch open-sump housings. The cartridge itself measures approximately 2.75 inches by 9.75 inches.

Does it remove chlorine?
Yes. It is designed for high-capacity chlorine reduction.

Does it reduce chloramine?
Yes. The current manufacturer data sheet includes chloramine-reduction performance.

Does it remove sediment?
Its 1-micron nominal rating helps retain fine sand, rust, silt and other sediment. A dedicated sediment pre-filter should still be installed ahead of it.

Is the 1-micron rating absolute?
No. It is a nominal rating, meaning the filter retains more than 85% of particles at the stated size under the manufacturer’s test definition.

Does it remove total dissolved solids?
No. Carbon filtration targets chlorine and certain organic and chemical contaminants. The RO membrane and DI resin perform the primary reduction of dissolved solids.

Must it be flushed before use?
Yes. Flush the cartridge according to its label and the filtration-system manufacturer’s instructions.

How often should it be replaced?
Replacement frequency depends on feed-water quality, disinfectant concentration, flow rate and total water processed. Replace it according to the system’s maintenance schedule or when chlorine breakthrough or reduced flow is detected.
