Captive-Bred Biota Lemonpeel Angelfish (Centropyge flavissima)

Lemonpeel Angelfish are active grazers and spend much of their day exploring live rock, picking at algae, and investigating their surroundings. Their compact adult size and intense coloration make them an excellent focal fish for a mature marine aquarium. As with wild specimens, individual fish can vary in their compatibility with corals and other sessile invertebrates, so they are best considered reef-compatible with caution.

Placement & Flow

Provide plenty of mature live rock, caves, crevices, and grazing surfaces. The rockwork gives this active species places to explore and retreat while providing natural algae and other microorganisms to graze throughout the day.

Moderate water movement is appropriate, with good overall circulation and areas of calmer flow around the rockwork. A mature aquarium is preferable because it provides a more established environment and additional natural grazing opportunities.

Lemonpeel Angelfish can become territorial, particularly toward other dwarf angelfish. Introduce tankmates thoughtfully and provide plenty of rockwork and visual breaks to help reduce territorial behavior.

Although captive-bred specimens can be excellent reef inhabitants, Lemonpeel Angelfish are not considered completely reef-safe. Individual fish may nip at soft corals, LPS, SPS, clam mantles, or other sessile invertebrates. A well-fed specimen may be less inclined to pick at corals, but compatibility can vary from fish to fish.

Feeding

The Lemonpeel Angelfish is an active omnivorous grazer and should receive a varied diet. Regular feeding is particularly important in captivity to support healthy growth, coloration, and body condition.

Offer a combination of nori and other marine algae, spirulina-based foods, quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and other appropriately sized marine foods. Feeding multiple small portions throughout the day can work well for this active species.

Captive-bred fish may readily accept prepared foods, but maintaining dietary variety remains important. Natural algae growth on mature rock can provide additional enrichment but should supplement rather than replace regular feeding.
