Placement & Flow

Place the Green Rhodactis on stable rockwork or an isolated section of the aquarium where it has adequate room to expand. These mushrooms can become considerably larger when fully inflated, so provide sufficient space from neighboring corals.

Gentle, indirect flow is ideal. The mushroom should be able to inflate fully and move naturally with the current without being constantly pushed against rockwork or neighboring corals. Avoid strong, concentrated flow, which can cause the mushroom to remain contracted or potentially detach.

Rhodactis can reproduce and spread under favorable conditions. If you want to control its growth, placing it on a separate rock or dedicated mushroom island is recommended. Keep reasonable distance from neighboring corals because larger specimens can shade or irritate corals growing nearby.

Lighting

Green Rhodactis generally performs well under 30–100 PAR. Lower to moderate lighting is typically sufficient, and these mushrooms do not require intense SPS-level illumination.

When introducing a new specimen, begin toward the lower end of the recommended range if its previous lighting is unknown and acclimate gradually to stronger light. Sudden increases in intensity can cause stress, contraction, or changes in coloration.

Blue-heavy reef lighting can enhance the fluorescent green appearance, while a balanced spectrum will provide a more natural representation of the coral's overall coloration and texture.

Feeding

Rhodactis is primarily photosynthetic, receiving much of its energy from symbiotic algae, but it can also capture and consume small food particles.

Supplemental feeding is beneficial but not required. When fully expanded, occasional offerings of fine coral foods, powdered reef foods, phytoplankton, or small zooplankton-based foods can provide additional nutrition and support growth.
