Unlike small plate coral specimens commonly offered for sale, this larger piece provides immediate visual impact and makes an excellent showpiece for an open sand bed.

Plate corals are free-living LPS corals known for their distinctive round shape, detailed ridged structure, and fleshy tissue. They are best kept directly on the sand bed, where they have room to expand without rubbing against sharp rockwork.

Placement & Care

Place the Gold Plate Coral on an open, soft sand bed with plenty of room around it. Avoid placing it directly on sharp or uneven rockwork, which can damage its fleshy tissue.

Gentle to moderate indirect flow is ideal. The coral should receive enough movement to keep debris from settling without being pushed around the aquarium.

Plate Corals are photosynthetic but can also accept appropriately sized meaty foods such as mysis shrimp and quality coral foods.

At 3"+ in diameter, this Gold Plate Coral is already a substantial specimen and offers considerably more presence than a small juvenile plate coral. Its intense gold coloration and intricate radial pattern make it especially striking under reef aquarium lighting.
